Social issues I have worked on

  • Mass adoption of the internet
  • Removing the barriers to consumer-generated communication, and democratizing it
  • Digitalization of marketing in the Chinese market
  • Barriers to opening a store in Japanese e-commerce
  • The spread of smartphones in Japan and everyday use of the internet on them
  • Creating opportunities for Japanese companies to grow sales in overseas (Chinese) markets as Japan's population declines
  • Strengthening outbound communication and visitor acquisition to capture growth in inbound tourism — especially visitors from China — as Japan's population declines

What I have done

  • Provided technical support to mobile carriers and content providers to make the mobile internet a reality, and launched "Mini Page," a forerunner of CGM (Consumer Generated Media)
  • Built a media advertising business on mobile portal sites through a partnership with China Mobile, China's largest telecom carrier
  • Eliminated marketplace listing fees for Yahoo! Shopping (the "e-commerce revolution") and expanded usage by strengthening e-commerce benefits for Yahoo! Premium members
  • Launched Y!mobile and led the shift of telecom line sales online. Strengthened bundling of the Yahoo! Premium membership program and preferential promotions for SoftBank smartphone users in e-commerce
  • Built a network of Chinese influencers living in Japan and supported marketing for major Japanese department stores, other retailers, and local governments
  • Established new entertainment content formats combining the reach of broadcasting with the interactivity of the internet (e.g., helping bring vote-based audition programs to the Japanese market)
  • Ran China-facing promotions and cross-border e-commerce for Japanese brands of every size, using Chinese influencers based in Japan
  • Evolved the LINE app's Timeline feature into the short-video platform "VOOM"
